On Friday four students from Princes Hill Secondary College visited our school to talk about the challenges faced when transitioning from primary to secondary school. All of our Year 6 students had many questions answered with the most popular questions surrounding “homework and locker keys.” Sue, the Year 7 Transition co-ordinator was able to answer many questions about life in a secondary school.

Yesterday, Betty and I went to our Orientation day at Princes Secondary College. In the morning we were told what form we would be in for next year. Emma and I are in the same form next year. We only have 27 children going to the same high school as us and the rest are from other schools.
After we got told which form we are in, we had the locker discussion. The high school lockers have these really tricky combinations. Most people had trouble, but after the teachers helped us and showed us how to do it, some kids started to get it a bit more. During the day, we did photography, Italian, science, English and homeroom. In science we did 5 experiments. In English we had to write a story and share it. In photography, we used photo booth and made oil paint pictures on the macs. In Italian, we learnt a lot about Italy and the cities in it. Other classes had other subjects like ceramics, drama, music and more. At lunch time we had a sausage sizzle and a drink.
The day was really good and we enjoyed it a lot.

On the 11th of December Poppy and I went to our Orientation Day at University High School.
We started the day off by meeting all the year 7s for 2013 in a hall and we got to see a video on the transition into University High School.
Then we got into our home groups and met our year 7s that we would spend the next couple of years with.
Everyone was nervous at first but once we got to know each other it was fun. We made friends with a girl called Karen and she was also nice. The whole class was very friendly and we all played games and got along. We were accompanied by a group of year 9 students they were very funny.
At lunch we all got a sausage, juice box and an Icy Pole and meet more year 7’s. It was awesome (we could also get seconds).
The School was a very big one and it was very easy to get lost. Once we got the hang of were things were we were all trying to get lost on purpose.
Overall the day was an awesome one. YAY J J J

PICTURES of an elderly couple’s house standing in the middle of a huge dual carriageway as they hold out for compensation to leave have gone viral on the internet in China.
The photographs, widely carried by Chinese state media and internet sites, show a partially demolished five-storey block of flats in the centre of the road in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
The phenomenon is called a NAIL HOUSE in China, as such buildings stick out and are difficult to remove, like a stubborn nail.

Imagine not having a place to go home to at night. Well, that’s the sad reality for people who are homeless. A recent report showed the number of homeless peoplein Australia has risen to more than a hundred thousand. And lots of those are young people.
What could our society do to CHANGE this situation?
