  13. Student Profiles

    PMpMon, 11 Nov 2013 18:53:46 -040053Monday 14, 2009 by Grade56neighbourhood blog

    Student Profiles

Princes Hill Primary School is currently developing profiles to track students learning in Mathematics and English. The first step in helping students learn is to get a clear picture of who they are, both as a group and as individuals. The children will be developing a profile of themselves to share with their teachers and fellow students. We are seeking to understand what has contributed to your child becoming the person they are today.

Each child from Prep to year 5 is asked to write their autobiography with the support of their parents. Please ensure that the autobiographical information provided is suitable for sharing with the all the members of the neighbourhood.

The Prep and year 1 children are asked to write their autobiographies with their parents in a word document font size 12 no longer than one page. Please email it to your child’s home teacher by the end of November. It will be copied and pasted into the student profile template which has been especially designed.

The children from year 3 to year 5 will upload the student profile template on to their laptops or may write their autobiographies with their parents in a word document font size 12 no longer than one page by the end of November.

An autobiography includes information such as name, when you were born, where were you born, your parents name, background, languages spoken at home, interests and hobbies, trips, special events, aspirations and may include how could you make an impact on the world? Please email completed word documents to your child’s home teacher.

Together with the Maths and English profiles, these autobiographical student profiles are especially important in helping us to learn about the experiences your child brings to the neighbourhood. Please talk to us about this.

  15. YR 5/6 Invite you to our “Power” performance

    AMpFri, 01 Nov 2013 00:07:45 -040007Friday 14, 2009 by Grade56neighbourhood blog

    Dear Parents/Carers,
The 56 neighbourhood will be showcasing their learning on Friday the 8th of November in the gymnasium.   The students will be expressing their learning through a range of performing arts mediums (animation, drama, debating, dance and music).  The production will commence at 7pm and finish by 8pm.  Students who are involved in the drama project group will be required to have  black pants and a black t-shirt and white t-shirt.   The students will not be wearing full costumes, but will be required to bring something that represents the role they are playing (hats, scarves, briefcase…etc). We do not want this to be an imposition on the parents, but any help with costumes and props would be appreciated.  We will give the students ideas about costumes and props which they can talk to you about. We also require 3 black academic gowns for debating. Please check with your child as to any specific requirements related to their project group.  Students will need to be at the gym by 6.45pm on the night of the performance.
    Warm Regards,
    56 neighbourhood teachers

Now it’s probably pretty obvious that if you’re near a pedestrian crossing you should use it. But did you know that not using it or crossing the road in the wrong way can land you with a fine?
Should pedestrians be fined for crossing the road incorrectly?

  19. National Children’s Week / Cyber Safety

    PMpTue, 22 Oct 2013 17:50:59 -040050Tuesday 14, 2009 by Grade56neighbourhood blog

Yesterday we invited Nick Parissis to speak to our students about various issues surrounding Cyber safety. He discussed some of the dangers associated with the internet, legislation regarding cyber bullying and also briefly spoke about sexting   (ie inappropriate sending of photos)

We are hoping to invite Nick to speak to our parent community in the next few weeks.

Nick has been a member of the police force for 23 years and has held the community liaison role for the past 13 years.  He has worked in the Carlton/Nth Melb area for 21 years. His role involves liaising with local young people and the community with a general view to preventing crime as opposed to reacting to it. He is also responsible for fostering positive relationships between the community and police.  He is a former winner of the Victoria Police youth officer of the year award and a finalist in the Melbourne Awards in the category of “Contribution to Community.” He has also organised numerous camps with our students over the years. (He was also a former PHPS student!)
